If I were

Peter Mutharika 2

Acting president of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), I would realise that there is a lot of groundwork that my party needs to do if it is to get back into power come 2014 or indeed beyond.

If I were the DPP leader, I would appreciate that much as my party still has a huge following, it will take a lot of rebuilding and house-cleaning for it to be voted back to power because of the numerous problems the country went through under its leadership.

I would appreciate, if I were the good professor, that the first step would be to come down to earth and apologise to Malawians for the pain inflicted on them under my party’s leadership and convince them that DPP will come back with better policies.

How I wish I were the DPP leader, because I would accept the harsh reality that under my party’s leadership, the country suffered a severe economic squeeze resulting in acute shortage of fuel and forex.

Yes, there were some areas which my party did well such as ensuring security, but I would appreciate that getting back into government will not be a stroll in the park and it will take more than lip service.

That is if only I were the good Professor. Unfortunately, I am not and can never be Peter Mutharika.
