Phalombe cherishes Teens Back to School Trophy

 

Phalombe district has cherished the Teens Back to School Trophy for playing a big role in convincing at least 76 teenage mothers to return to school.

Frank Mwafulirwa, Save the Children Malawi’s programme manager for Norwegian Agency for Development (Norad)-funded Reduction of Teen Pregnancies (RTP) Project, said since the introduction of the trophy few months ago, 75 of the 300 teen mothers have gone back to school.

He said through the project, which is supported by Forum for African Women Educationists Malawi Chapter (Fawema) and Banja La Mtsogolo (BLM), they have also managed to improve the enrolment of adolescent girls (between standard four and eight) in school from 18 305 to 20 448 and girls’ pass rate enhanced from 65.7% to 69.2%.

Malawi Queens legend Mary Waya and former Flames defender James Sangala, inspired the players during finals at Migowi Primary School on Friday.

In women football, Mpasa beat Nazombe 2-1. In netball, Migowi thrashed Swang’oma 12-4 while Migowi beat Swang’oma 2-0 in boys football, according to Malawi Schools Sports Association of Malawi (Massa) chairperson for Phalombe Maclaws Chisale. n
