All is set for the launch of the K450 000 (about $1 800) Central Region Phindu Beach Soccer League at Sunbird Livingstonia today.
According to the league’s secretary Leonard Mazombwe, teams taking part in the launch include MRA, Tilipano, Tourism, Nkhotakota Stars, Exipa, Sunbird Livingstonia, Simba, Parachute, Mafco, Bwandilo, Police and Mchengawamoto.
“It means we will have more than six games taking place during the launch. The league has 16 teams and the season will run up to October,” said Mazombwe.
He is urging all interested teams to register immediately so that the season runs as scheduled.
“We really want to stick to the calendar because we might have a national team assignment later in the year. The games will be taking place every fortnight in Salima. It is only Salima which has a venue suitable for beach soccer in the Central Region,” said Mazombwe.
Mazombwe said during the games, there will be an ongoing disco and braii.
“Fans are guaranteed an enjoyable weekend. We urge people to come and patronise the games. Beach soccer has come to stay,” he said.
