Phiri names new faces in Flames squad

 

Flames caretaker coach Gerald Phiri has named a number of new faces in the 29-member squad which has been called for a friendly match against China on January 28.

The new faces include goalkeeper Leman Nthala, defenders Mike Ntonyo, Paul Phiri and Thoko Stambuli, midfielders Duncan Nyoni and Mike Mkwate and striker Luwindiko Mushani.

Also in the squad: Mkwate (R) and Chande

The match will be part of the activities at the launch of the magnificent Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.

According to a statement from the Football Association of Malawi, the team will camp at Mpira Hotel from this Sunday and will proceed to the capital city on January 22.

Mafco FC hitman and 2016 Golden Boot winner Richard Mbulu has also been called up.

Returning to the squad is revived Kamuzu Barracks FC midfield workhorse Dave Banda who was part of the historic 2010 Africa Cup of Nations campaign squad.

Other notable faces are Chimango Kayira, John Lanjesi and Jaffalie Chande. Conspicuously missing from the squad is striker Chiukepo Msowoya.

The full squad is as follows: Goalkeepers: Ernest Kakhobwe, Richard Chipuwa, Nthala; Defenders: Stanley Sanudi, Steve Chagoma,  Ntonyo, John Lanjesi, Paul Phiri, Yamikani Fodya, Stambuli, Lucky Malata; Midfielders: Banda, Kayira, Chikoti Chirwa, Isaac Kaliati, Saidi Mtekama, Dalitso Sailesi, Nyoni, Gilbert Chirwa, Mkwate, Harvey Nkacha, Yamikani Chester; Strikers: Muhamad Sulumba, Mbulu, Gastin Simkonda,  Chande, Manase Chiyesa, Khuda Muyawa  and Mushani. n
