“It’s official: Gerald Phiri has signed for Bidvest Wits,” the South Africa Africa Premier Soccer League side twitted on Friday.

Phiri’s management team, Siyavuma Sports Group of South Africa, also confirmed that the attacker “signed a long-term deal and the fee was undisclosed but they paid a smallish fee.”

Reaping the fruits of his calm and assured displays at 2015 Cosafa Cup in North West Province in May, Phiri joins at Wits other new signings such as winger Elias Pelembe of Mozambique and New Zealand striker Kris Bright and midfielder Keaghan Jacobs.

Details about Phiri’s transfer fee remain a secret, but Phiri had some years on his five-year contract he signed with Caps from Mighty Wanderers, having, alongside Frank GabadinhoMhango, graduated from the now defunct second-tier league team Brave Warriors.

The 22-year-old, whose versatility as set piece speciality, false striker and winger atones for his lack of power, has six caps and one goal in the Flames, having won the 2015 Cosafa Cup Plate Division Championship on May 29 when he was named man -of -the-match.
