Phoenix win Alliance Capital Inter-Schools Golf

Phoenix Private Primary School on Friday emerged champions of the 2016 Alliance Capital Southern Region Inter-Schools Golf Tournament at Blantyre Sports Club (BSC).
Inspired by captain Killian Mmangeni and Matamando Kalima, Phoenix dethroned last year’s champions Hillview Private Primary School who had 392 strokes whereas Royal Heritage were third with 430 strokes.
The tournament was played on a foursome format.
“I think we played with a lot of purpose and deserved the crown this time around,” said Mmangeni.
Alliance Capital’s sales executive Rehanna Rice said they were happy with the organisation and progress of the tournament.

“The tournament has been a success and we would like to take it to Lilongwe and if it goes well, we want to take it [further] to Mzuzu in the near future.The plans are to have a national tournament in the future,” she said.
Golf Union of Malawi (GUoM) honorary secretary Gladson Kuyeri and a member of the Southern Region Junior Golf Committee Dingaan Chirwa thanked Alliance Capital for the continued sponsorship.
Chirwa said: “We are on course and we have huge potential. We have made tremendous strides since we started and by 2020, we are optimistic of producing a professional golfer.”
After the tournament, the committee presented awards to outstanding players during the year and Priscilla Fiwa was named the Player of the Year, Marcus Chalulu scooped the Best Male Golfer while Kate Chapola was named the Best Female Golfer.
Evergreen Ziyaad Mussa clinched the Most Promising Golfer while Zitta Rodrick got the Most Improved Golfer accolade and Dan Vosloo Jnr went away with the Best Young Golfer Award. 
