Super League of Malawi (Sulom) has released names of the four players shortlisted for the 2020/21 TNM Super League Player of the Season Award.
Ironically, all the nominees Chiwemwe Idana (Nyasa Big Bullets), Blessings Tembo (Silver Strikers), Vitumbiko Kumwenda (Mighty Wanderers) and Lloyd Njaliwa (Moyale Barracks) are midfielders.
A press release issued by Sulom yesterday reads in part: “Voting for the players of the season by public and supporters will start on 31st October 2021 to 10th November 2021.
“You may recall that members of the media, team captains and head coaches voted and indentified the top four players of the season.”
Sulom says having identified the top four players, a special voting code (3039) has been assigned for voting by supporters.
“Your vote as a supporter counts. You watched them play and entertain you, it’s now your turn to vote for your favourite player.

In an interview yesterday, football analyst Kelvin Moyo said the shortlist is a true reflection of the players that stood out during the season.
He said: “These players were outstanding and consistent for their clubs and they had a positive impact on the results posted by their respective teams.”
For the first time, the Player of the Season will get a Mazda Demio as a prize.
For the other categories, Sulom has maintained its criteria of using a special panel to determine the best goalkeeper, best defender and best midfielder.
Bullets striker Hassan Kajoke already scooped the golden boot with 15 goals after pipping Silver’s Maxwell Gasten Phodo who had 13.
Former Nyasa Big Bullets midfielder Peter Banda, who now turns out for Tanzanian top-flight league outfit Simba SC was the recipient of the 2019 Player of the Season Award.
