“Ndirande is one of the big communities where issues of HIV and Aids require serious attention for people to understand. We, therefore, want to use football as a tool for disseminating messages,” he said.

Kandulu said during soccer matches, they will also be conducting voluntary HIV and Aids counselling and testing through Concern Youth Organisation.

The competition, which is being conducted with financial support from United Nations Aids Organisation (Unaids), will run for three months.

Champions are expected to receive K200 000 while runners-up and third-placed teams will get K100 000 and K50 000 respectively.

During the launch match, Cape Tech FC beat New Bamako 4-3.
