After successfully launching his first ever poetry album in Lilongwe on April 2, celebrated poet Q Malewezi embarks on a countrywide tour to dish out the collection to the people.

He launches what he has dubbed the People tour with a performance at M-Theatre in Blantyre this Friday.

“The tour will mainly focus on tertiary institutions in Blantyre, Lilongwe, Zomba and Mzuzu with shows in the CBDs [central business districts] as well. I will announce soon dates and venues for shows after the Blantyre one,” said Q in an interview.

The launch in Lilongwe, which received a resounding response as he cemented Q’s voice on local poetry and spoken word, followed an online release of the same album on March 19.

“The response is really good. The album is doing well online as well,” he said.

Releasing the People on www.cdbaby.com prior to the launch means the online record store makes it available on iTunes, Google Play, Spotify, Amazon and Tidal, among others.

“The April launch was a lot of work and I was drained soon after and needed to recover first so that I could have enough energy for the tour,” said Q when asked why it has taken such a long time before he embarked on the tour.

Q commands respect both locally and internationally. His 2012 release The Road Taken was incorporated in the creative writing course at the African Bible College in Lilongwe.
