Police arrest 41 suspected criminals

Police in Blantyre have arrested 41 suspected criminals including five illegal immigrants during a sweeping exercise conducted on Wednesday night.

Speaking in an interview, Assistant Police Public Relations Officer for Blantyre Grace Mwale said the Burundian illegal immigrants were also illegally conducting businesses in the townships of the city.

“These immigrants run away from camps and opened shops in the townships,” explained Mwale adding that they will be taken to court and probably be sent back to their respective camps.

“We also have two criminals we found selling medical drugs without a license and one for operating a bottle store without a license while some were found with Indian hemp.”

The sweeping exercise which is on-going was conducted in Manase, Chilomoni and Ndirande Townships with the aim of curbing crimes in the city.
