Police arrest 5 robbery suspects

Police in the lakeshore district of Mangochi on Tuesday arrested five people on alleged housebreaking and theft charges.

Eastern Region Police spokesperson Thomeck Nyaude said the five broke into the house of Habumugisha Frencien (52), a Rwandan businessperson based in Mangochi and stole K1.5 million (about $8 982).

“Eight unknown people, six of whom were dressed in police uniform, stormed Frencien`s house and forced one of his daughters to call his father from the bedroom.

“Frencien was handcuffed and dumped at Mpima Forest,” he said.

Nyaude said  they recovered K900 000 from Stain Matoliro (24), Lameck Mkwapatila (22), Geoffrey Sainate (19), Moris Mbila (17) and Mustafa Awali (17) who all failed to account for the money.
