Police said the suspected robbers invaded the house of Shameer Aboo in the afternoon at his residence in Area 9, tied his family members with ropes and forced them into one room and made away with K75 000, four cellphones and a laptop.

Lilongwe Police spokesperson Ramsy Mushani said the five suspects aged between 28 and 36 were using a government vehicle registration MG 748 AF.

Police identified the suspects as Addalla Chapuma Phiri, Frank Semu, both 28, Yusuf Kalembo, 30; Geoffrey Ali, 33 and Andrew Kazembe, 36. One is reported to have escaped the arrest.

Mushani said Aboo’s  neighbour alerted the police after hearing screams from the house and 990 Rapid Response crew responded to the alert and rushed to the scene and made the arrests after a good chase.

Mushani said one suspect is believed to have escaped with the laptop, three cellphones and unspecified amount of money.

Police, Mushani said, recovered one cellphone and cash and impounded the vehicle the suspected robbers used.
