Police at Kanengo in Lilongwe have arrested 19-year-old Van Gomani for posing as a woman and allowing a man to hook him up for sexual activity.

Kanengo Police Station public relations officer Salome Zgambo Chibwana said in a statement that Gomani was arrested yesterday morning after a man he hooked up to took him to police after realising that he had been fooled.

The statement described Gomani as a male with “female looks dressed up like a woman”. He made his hair with hair extensions and stood along the road where the man the statement is not identifying, took him in the belief that he was a woman.

Said the statement: “They went together and booked a room. It was in that room that the other man noticed that the person he picked  was also a fellow man. He then took him to Kanengo Police Station because he felt deceived and feared that Gomani wanted to steal from him.”

The Centre for the Development of People (Cedep) which champions freedoms for minority groups has since shown interest in the case.

Cedep executive director Gift Trapence has said that they have assigned a lawyer to Kanengo Police Station to gather more information and see if they can intervene in any way.

Police said Gomani comes from Kapetera Village in Blantyre District and is expected to appear in court where he would be charged with soliciting immoral purpose contrary to Section 180(e) of the Penal Code.

  1. Something doesn’t add up. If this guy was arrested for “soliciting”, why didn’t the police arrest the other dude as well? The police seem to agree with the premise that the other dude was “cheated”. Cheated out of what? Out of sex with a FEMALE prostitute?
