Central Region commissioner of police John Nyondo has asked police officers to uphold their professional standards when carrying out their duties.

He made the remarks in Dedza on Tuesday during the mid-year station executive committee meeting.

“Our duty is to protect civilians and make sure that there is peace and order in the country. So, we must act in accordance with these principles,” said Nyondo.

He warned that any police officer involved in criminal activities will be dealt with and there will be no protection from the police.

Nyondo also appealed to community members to desist from crime.

“I would like to ask members of the community to control alcohol consumption as many crimes are committed under the influence of alcohol,” he said.

He also condemned abductions and killings of albinos and people with bald heads.

Nyondo thanked Dedza District Council for the support it renders to the police.

“We know the police are lacking some resources for effective deliverance of duties, but the council always helps us with resources such as vehicles for transportation,” he said.

In his remarks, Dedza district commissioner Ellis Tembo, who was guest of honour at the function, pledged continued support to the police. n
