Malawi Police Service (MPS) Inspector General (IG) Lot Dzonzi has assured Malawians that there will be maximum security ahead of the festive season and beyond.

Dzonzi said this on Friday during an audience with police officers in the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in Lilongwe.

He observed that CID is one of the police departments doing commendable work in terms of probing serious criminal activities.

Dzonzi said through the CID and other departments within the police, MPS has taken steps to ensure safety of citizens and all tourists that will be visiting the country during the Christmas and New Year festivities.

But he was quick to point out that every Malawian has a role to play in keeping Malawi safe.

Dzonzi said currently MPS has embarked on rapid police traffic checks on all the major roads to prevent accidents.

He said police has also increased the number of officers in both uniform and CID to be deployed in various areas that are prone to criminal activities.

The IG also hailed his officers for arresting five of the people accused of robbing Minister of Natural Resources, Energy and Mining Atupele Muluzi at his official residence in Lilongwe’s Area 9 recently.

He said preliminary investigations show that the suspects are hardcore criminals on police wanted list of serious offences committed within the City of Lilongwe and other districts.
