KIA Police spokesperson Sapulain Chitonde said in an interview yesterday that the suspect landed at KIA from Benin on an Ethiopian Airlines flight with his luggage.

He said: “Upon arriving at KIA’s arrivals hall, Malawi Revenue Authority [MRA] officers who searched he man noticed strange powders which were concealed in his bag. They informed police officers who searched him and found the said drug concealed underneath his bag.”

Chitonde said Ogbunobi is in police custody pending a court appearance while the suspected drug will be examined at the National Drug Quality Control Laboratory for confirmation.

Illegal importation of dangerous drugs is an offence under Section 11 (a) as read with Regulation 19 of Dangerous Drug Act.
