He said security and policing in the city of Lilongwe faces several challenges, especially before and during Christmas and New Year festivities.

“As a station, we believe that through community- based policing approach to security problems, we can reduce crime during the festive seasons.

“Resources sometimes limit security operations [hence] it is important that as stakeholders, we [should] mobilise resources to assist in beefing up security operations to contain crime in the city,” he said.

During the meeting, businesspersons and communities pledged to support the initiative.

Those who made the pledges included Minibus Owners Association of Malawi (Moam), the Chinese community, Riverside Hotel, Sana Cash ‘N’ Carry, Kalaria Group, Muslim Community and Nantipwiri Filling Station.

Munthali also assured the gathering that Lilongwe Police Station was working tirelessly to ensure safety and security is restored to make Lilongwe a safer place to live in. n
