Police in Balaka yesterday rescued some members of the Be Forward Wanderers’ technical panel from irate fans at Balaka Stadium after the Nomads played out a goalless draw against Karonga United.

After the TNM Super League match, some fans bayed for the blood of last season’s championship winning coach Yasin ‘Titch’ Osman and his backroom staff as they left the stadium.

Team manager Stevie Madeira described the situation as unfortunate.

“If this team is to improve its performance then we all have to pull in the same direction.

“It was clear today that we lack the killer punch upfront, otherwise we were in control of the game. We created not less than 10 clear chances but failed to utilise them and yet a section of the fans wanted to attack us. This is not fair,” he said.

The Nomads coaching panel was last week given an ultimatum to win five games or risk the chop but failed the first test yesterday.

Peter Wadabwa and new-signing Zicco Mkanda, who was making his debut, meshed potently upfront but their efforts were either thwarted by Karonga defence marshalled by former Nomad Peter Mselema or they missed.

The Nomads are now fourth with eight points from five games, three short of leaders Azam Tigers while Karonga are ninth with five points from five games

In other games, Kasungu-based rookies TN Stars chalked their first win after seeing off struggling Masters Security 2-1 at Kasungu Stadium. TN Stars are 13th with four points from four games whereas Masters anchor the 16-team league with a point from five matches.

Kamuzu Barracks (KB) handed fellow Malawi Defence Force (MDF) side Red Lions their first defeat of the season with a 3-2 victory at Mangochi Stadium. KB are now seventh with seven points from five matches while Lions are still third with eight points from five games.

At Nankhaka Stadium in Dwangwa, Nkhotakota, another MDF side Mafco and Dwangwa United played out a one-all draw.

Mafco are second from the bottom with two points from four games whereas Dwangwa are a place above them with four points from four games.
