Police women’s group aids patients at Mwanza Hospital

Mwanza Police Station Women’s Welfare Group has donated various items to the children’s ward at Mwanza District Hospital to alleviate challenges patients and guardians face.

In an interview on Saturday, wife of Commissioner of Police for South West Region, Tabitha Banda, who was the guest of honour, commended the group for its commitment towards charity work for vulnerable people in the district.

“I want to thank Mwanza Police Station Women’s Welfare Group for mobilising resources for the donation which I believe will assist the beneficiaries admitted to this hospital,” she said.

Banda urged other police stations to emulate what their counterparts have done by helping the needy in various ways.

Speaking on behalf of the group, wife to Mwanza Police Station officer-in charge, Loyce Maigwa, said they noted the challenges people admitted to the hospital face daily.

“Some of these patients have nobody around to provide them with their daily needs because they come from remote areas,” she said.

Mwanza District Health Office spokesperson Dikirani Chadza said the donation was timely as patients and guardians lack many things during their stay at the hospital.

“Such acts of kindness make the patients feel loved and cared for,” he said.

A guardian in the children’s ward, Dorica Luciano, thanked the women for the help, saying it will go a long way in meeting their daily needs at the hospital.

“We are grateful for the items and we hope you will do the same to others,” she said.

The items included soap, sugar, juice, snacks, soya pieces, body lotion and plates.
