Polytechnic FC produced a vintage performance to beat Cobbe Barracks 4-3 on Saturday in the Southern Region Football Association (SRFA) Premier League match played at Zomba Community Centre ground.

The result has further dampened the Zomba-based soldiers’ dream of reducing the gap with Max Bullets at the top, as the latter won 2-1 away to White Eagles. Bullets’ win means they have now opened an eleven-point lead with 82 points from 35 games. Cobbe remain second with 71 points.

The students stunned the soldiers with a brace from Jonathan Mdonge, while Alexander Kogoya and Malumbo Sichinga scored a goal apiece.

Cobbe scored through their striker McPeter Makwale, Jossam Kholiyo and Isaac Vizyalona.

Makwale has taken his tally to 34 goals.

“The train seems to have derailed. We are trying everything, but results are disappointing,” said Cobbe coach William Chiwanda. n
