Polypack lived up to their word on Sunday when they knocked down Kukoma by 22 runs to win the FMB 20-overs Knockout Cricket Tournament final at Mpingwe Sports Club (MSC) in Blantyre.

Polypack batted first to make 150 runs, but Kukoma hardly chased down the score in the second innings as their energy could not take them anywhere above 128 runs.

Irfan Wadia’s remarkable batting potency proved the genesis of Polypack’s remarkable success in this sizzling encounter that appeared a 50-50 affair until Kukoma’s skippers started to get easily bowled out in the last six overs.

Wadia made individual contribution of 39 runs before claiming a wicket. Suheil Goti increased Polypack’s predictable advantage with 22 more runs and three wickets.

Kukoma had an incredible start to the chase when Naeem Chaudhry made 39 runs from only 25 balls and when Aasim Jaral added 28 runs on top of catching two wickets. However, such glittering moments were only enough to stimulate their army of cheering fans but not to win the game.

In individual awards, Wadia was named the best batsman of the tournament while Goti and his teammate Imtyaz Badat claimed the man of the match and the best bowler of the tournament accolades, respectively. Gold Fattani’s Soheil Manjra emerged as the competition’s overall best player.

FMB head of corporate banking Agness Jazza said they were thrilled by the good organisation of the K1 million (about $200) competition and they are willing to come again with financial support next season.
