Malawian hip-hop artist Pop Dogg based in Dublin, Ireland, continues to shine on the international scene. His song Get Loose with Raw Soul recently reached second position in Lupe Fiasco Rap Superstar Spin103.8fm competition with over 20 000 votes.

The artist, whose real name is Ibrahim Haji, also scooped the Best Male Artist Award in the Ireland African Music Awards (IAMA) last year. He attributes his success to his explosive lyrics and accentuating punch-lines delivered in different languages topped off with energetic and passionate performances on stage.

“Over 500 rappers and singers entered the competition and I was among the three finalists selected in the competition. Being bilingual makes me one of the rarest and gifted artists to rap, sing and write in two completely different languages,” he said.

His recognition goes beyond Ireland and Malawi because the young artist has on several occasions, with his first album Spit Real, raised curtains for international artists, including The Game, 2Face and Ruggedam of Nigeria.

He is currently working on his second album titled Enter the Ninja from which he has released three songs.
