The ruling People’s Party (PP) says it will pay nomination fees for its aspiring members of Parliament (MPs) who will fail to do so in 20 May Tripartite Elections.

President Joyce Banda announced this on Sunday at Bingu International Conference Centre in

Lilongwe during official launch of PP 2014/2019 manifesto.

Said Banda: “We [PP] will pay nomination fees for all aspiring MPs who will not be able to pay.”

Banda asked the candidates to help her spread the manifestos which, she said, show how the party is prepared to improve people’s welfare in areas of food security, education, health and others.

President Banda assured the candidates and invited guests at the ceremony that it is possible for PP to win the coming elections.

Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) in August last year announced that male aspiring MPs will pay K200 000 (US$478) while their female counterparts will pay K150 000 (US$359) as nomination fees.

  1. a mbonga mutu wanu sumagwira.udf.mcp,and dpp will do the same with their aspirants, what is wrong with pp.after all the nomination form clearly talks of independents and party sponsored candidets.

  2. When its PP then its cashgate money but when its other parties its clean money. Poor Malawians. DPP paid for all its aspiring mps in 2009, did we have cashgate then?. And now Atupele is using the money his father stole from Malawians but again there is no issue because its udf. Lets try to be objective please

  3. Those who claim the money that will be used by PP is ‘cashgate’ money are swimming in a pool of confusion or suffering from selective amnesia. PP only came into power less than two years ago and the plundering of state resources under the ‘cashgate’ banner began while DPP was into power. Why then don’t you say DPP is using ‘cashgate’ money for elections if that’s the case and opt to accuse the PP? It does not make sense at all. PP is a well established party that can pay its dues for the elections and still fight ‘cashgate’ corruption in government.

  4. Using cash gate money and cash gate vehicles from Lutepo. We will see the PP cash gate vehicles during campaign and yet Malawians we will just look and watch. This is the time to show this PP party that we dont want cash gate and that we are not happy seeing it playing their cash gate vehicles. Stone any PP vehicle you see. Other cash gate people have their properties seized by Government
