Kondowe: Asked for prayers

New director general of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Lucas Kondowe has asked for prayers as he embarks on the task of leading the fight against corruption in Malawi.

Kondowe said leading the ACB, weighed by perceptions of political interference and seen as a tool of persecution, is a tough job for anybody to succeed without the help of all stakeholders, including God.

“Pray for me. I’m energised. This country can do much better. Let us work together, this is our country. We can all do well and earn our living in a fair way. Greed and corruption are this country’s greatest enemies. Let’s join hands to fight this evil,” said Kondowe in an interview.

He said he intends to work with all stakeholders to ensure that “in everything that is done and must be done, the ACB must create conditions that guarantee the betterment of all Malawians.”

“This task cannot be accomplished by myself alone; obviously, I will need the support of all three arms of government, the citizens, political party leaders, civil society organisations, religious leaders, teachers, the international community, the media and all stakeholders.

“We all need to put our hands on deck because to succeed we need to pursue the philosophy of a shared responsibility,” he added.

Asked why he accepted such a tough job, Kondowe said he was persuaded by the need to do something about the problems that affect this country instead of just complaining about them.

“Now, either we continue complaining and do nothing about it or we all come forward and offer our services in any way possible to make a positive change,” he said.

  1. Mmmmmmh! just wishin u great. its a tough position mr! U really need prayers.

  2. Restructure the whole ACB as it is infected with corruption virus. You probably need to quarantine some of the staff they are spreading this virus and not helping at all. All you need is listening to GOD, and always think why you are there. Be a leader that you were meant to be, if you compromise and want to please your masters then forget about it. So figure it out how you want to lead ACB. We are watching.
