Football Association of Malawi has announced that the long-awaited Presidential Cup final between Big Bullets and Moyale Barracks will be held on August 26 at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) chief executive officer Suzgo Nyirenda made the announcement on Wednesday during a press briefing at Chiwembe Technical Centre.

He said the decision on date and venue has been made by government, who are the sponsors of the K60 million (about $240 000) showcase.

Nyirenda read out a letter from Sports Council executive secretary George Jana informing the association on the date and venue of the final match.

Part of the letter reads: “We would like to advise that upon consultations, the sponsors have advised that it [the final match] should be held on August 26 at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.”

But Nyirenda said the guest of honour at the final will be known next week.

He also announced that as per Fifa requirement, FAM will print 32 000 tickets for the match and charges will be K500 (about $2) open stands, K2 000 (about $8) MBC stand, K3 000 (about $12) covered stands and K5 000 (about $20) for the VIP enclosure.

Bullets qualified for the final after beating Escom United in post-match penalties while Moyale beat Red Lions 3-2.
