Malawi Government has approved FAM’s request that apart from the Presidential Cup, other competitive football matches should resume this weekend.
FAM president Walter Nyamilandu and public relations and communications manager Casper Jangale confirmed the development on Thursday.
Said Nyamilandu: “We discussed the matter with Sports Council and the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports and they have given us the go-ahead.
“Except for the Presidential Cup that will resume a week after the mourning period, all the games will resume over the weekend.”
He said the Presidential Cup games will resume on May 13, a week after the official mourning period.
The FAM president also said a one-minute silence will be observed before games in honour of the departed president Bingu wa Mutharika.
“The teams will also be required to wear black arm bands as a sign of respect to our departed former Head of State,” said Nyamilandu.
