The United Democratic Front (UDF) says it will not spare any constituency and ward during its primary elections scheduled to start mid next month.

The party announced on Monday that it is set to hold parliamentary and local government primary elections following Article 40 of its constitution and in accordance with a resolution of the national executive committee which met on September 12 2013.

In an interview yesterday, UDF spokesperson Ken Ndanga said the party will have the primaries in all the 193 constituencies regardless of the status of incumbents and also in all wards across the country.

“Even myself as a publicity secretary, I would want to contest. However, it would be left to the people to make a decision,” he said.

A statement from the party says interested individuals would have to collect nomination forms at a fee from designated officials.

The nomination fees required, according to the statement, is K30 000 (about $75) for male aspirant MPs, K20 000 (about $50) for female aspirants, K10 000 (about $25) for male aspirants in local elections and K5 000 for female aspirants.

The ruling People’s Party (PP) and the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) have also said that they are ready to hold the primary elections.

PP spokesperson Hophmally Makande said the primaries will be in December this year or January next year while DPP spokesperson Nicholas Dausi said the party will have the primaries between November and December this year.
