A 25-year-old prison warder is in the cooler at Lumbadzi Police Sub-Station on allegation that he defiled a 15-year-old girl.

The warder, Paul Chindozi, stationed at Maula Prison is alleged to have defiled his step-daughter on Monday, December 11 at Lumbadzi.

The victim’s mother told police she knew about the incident after knocking off from work on Monday evening.

“When she knocked off from work,  the mother found the girl crying, after interrogating her, she revealed that she had been defiled by her step-father,” explains public relations officer for Kanengo Police Station Laban Makalani.

Makalani further explained that the mother then took the victim to Lumbadzi Police where she was referred to a healthy facility for medical examination where it was confirmed that the victim had indeed been defiled.

Chindozi, who hails from Mangwe village in the area of Traditional Authority Nkukula in Dowa, surrendered himself to police on Tuesday. He has been charged with the offence of defilement under section 138 of the penal code and is expected to appear before court soon.

This case comes barely a month after a Limbe-based police officer, Collings Mwambiwa, was sentenced to 18 years Imprisonment with Hard Labour (IHL) for defiling and abducting a 17-year-old girl.
