Stonard Lungu: His sons want to raise money for his tombstone

Insufficient funds for the posthumous album by the acoustic musician, Stonard Lungu, led to it not being released on the market, his son Mumderanji has said.

Speaking as the Anachita Chobaya artiste’s sons, trading as the Young Stons, prepare for a launch of their own album in November, Mumderanji said they had to abandon distributing and marketing the album due to lack of funds.

“There was no money to distribute and market the album, so we just let go. All the studio work was done,” he said in an interview on Monday.

The album, Chikondi cha Mulungu, was recorded at Gomonda Studio.

Lungu died on November 7 2008 after a protracted battle against cancer.

According to Mumderanji, who teams up with brothers Kondwani and Gift, joined by cousins Chinsinsi, Eddah and Bibiana, the Young Stons will on November 2 hold a memorial show for their father at Mibawa Cafe in Blantyre.

They will also launch their debut album, Mzimu wa Agogo, on the day.

“Proceeds from the show will help us build a tombstone for our father. The journey has been difficult for us and to finalise a 10-track album is like a dream come true for us,” he said.

The album was recorded at Polyvibes Professional Studios in Ndirande, where they are based.
