A new beauty modelling promoter in Blantyre has said they are set to restore the lost glory of the ‘bruised’ Miss Blantyre contest by setting new standards.

Speaking over the weekend at the pre-launch of this year’s Miss Blantyre held at Chilomoni-Nthukwa open ground, chairperson of the event’s organising committee Daniel Ngwira said time has come for Miss Blantyre to realise its destiny by taking a new pathway.

“We want to create an enabling environment of unearthing true beauty and brains; an environment which will be free from worrying about scandals and shoddy deals. And most importantly, we want to create Miss Blantyre that will be free to focus on what she wants to achieve with our support,” said Ngwira.

Many stories have been written about Miss Blantyre with its promoters and managers making butter milk-like promises.

It has been the wish of the country’s beauty models to land lucrative business deals with reputable companies as brand ambassadors or marketing representatives of their products.

Asked about the new mechanisms that will bring about change to the face of Miss Blantyre contest, Ngwira explained:

“We are looking forward to master every stage of the competition this year right from sourcing resources, branding and marketing the prospective queen to potential sponsors. So, you can rest be assured that this year’s Miss Blantyre will be smooth and reliable.”

He said meanwhile, his team has already partnered with Blantyre City Council (BCC) to pave way for other programmes that the would-be Miss Blantyre could be engaged in.

He said promotion of the city’s sanitation and girls’ education were some of the key areas that the prospective queen of Blantyre will focus on.

“This time around we are looking for a Miss Blantyre who will contribute to the socio-economic development of the city and make a difference in lives of girls for them to value themselves while working towards completing their education.

“And to ensure that we produce a Miss Blantyre of this calibre, our organising committee comprises energetic and innovative young people who are devoted in making this dream come true. We are also working with different stakeholders because together we can achieve a big thing,” said Ngwira.
