Police in Thyolo have arrested Thokozani Banda, 23, for allegedly killing Biziwick Macsonji who reportedly failed to pay up for sex.
Thyolo Police spokesperson Edith Kachotsa told Malawi News Agency (Mana) at the weekend that 36-year-old Macsonji went to sell mats at Khonjeni Market in the district and later went for a drink at Chibayela Bar where he reportedly met Banda, a commercial sex worker, with whom he spent the night.

Police quoted witnesses as having said that Macsonji told Banda he did not have money on him but his friends were keeping it; hence, could not pay for the services.
Said Kachotsa: “Macsonji’s shoes were confiscated so that he could look for his friends and come back with the payment. Unfortunately, he returned empty-handed, claiming his friends had left.
“The commercial sex worker hit him with a bottle on the head before going ahead to cut and stab him several times with a knife. She [Banda] then released him, but he was bleeding badly that he could not even walk. Some people saw him and immediately rushed him to Mitengo Health Centre, but died a few hours later while receiving treatment.”

Banda is in police custody pending a court appearance for the charge of murder.
The deceased came from Sitima Village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Nchilamwera in the district while Banda comes from Juma Village, T/A Chilemba in Mulanje. 
