PS Anthony Livuza dead

Malawi’s Secretary of Information and Civic Education Anthony Livuza died yesterday at Mwaiwathu Private Hospital in Blantyre after a short-illness.

Director of Information Grey Mang’anda confirmed the death in an interview with The Nation.

“What we know is that he went to the hospital for medical checkup. Details of burial would be out on Monday after discussions between the ministry officials and family members [Sunday]. He would be laid to rest a day after Tuesday. That is what I can say,” he said.

Mang’anda said Livuza would be buried in his home district of Mulanje.

Soon after news broke of his death, Minister of Information, Moses Kunkuyu on his Facebook page described Livuza as his mentor, friend and above all, his brother.

“Losing you at this moment is like cutting a lesson short never to resume it. Working with you was inspiring, energising and equipping. Without you, some inspiration is gone, mentorship is gone and lots of energy is lost.

“A dark cloud hovers over the Ministry of Information and the entire media fraternity today. Your haste departure has left a gap too wide and not easy to fill. God knows best why today had to be the day. I miss you already Anthony.”

Livuza, a CNN award winning journalist, worked in different senior ministerial positions during the Bakili Muluzi, Bingu wa Mutharika and Joyce Banda administrations.
