Pupil rapes woman in Dowa

A 17-year-old boy claiming to be a Standard Seven pupil at Manthimba Primary School in Dowa is being kept at Mponela Police after he allegedly raped a 49-year old woman in a maize field.

Mponela Police spokesperson Kondwani Kandiado said the suspect, Kafakalunda Chinsinga, committed the offence on July 6 after he saw the woman alone in a maize field where she was fetching firewood.

“He was coming from a drinking spree at Lipiri Trading Centre. When he saw the woman, he followed her and forced her to the ground and later raped her,” said Kandiado.

He said the victim screamed for help, but nobody came to her rescue.

“When interrogated, the suspect admitted to have committed the offence, saying he was under the influence of local distilled beer known as Kachasu,” claimed Kandiado.

A medical report from Mponela Rural Hospital revealed that the woman, also a mother, was raped.

“He will appear before court soon to answer rape charges,”

The suspect, Kafakalunda Chinsinga, 17, hails from Kawande Village in Traditional Authority (T/A) Kayembe in Dowa.
