Qiyamah: End times according to Islam

Last week, BRIGHT MHANGO presented a controversial prophecy by Malachy who said there is one more pope to come before the end of the times. In this article, he captures the Islamic perspective of the end of the world using insights from Sheik Dinala Chabulika.

When Allah decides that enough is enough, he will flatten the earth and destroy all life. A new earth will be created; all people will be resurrected and given evidence of their sins or righteousness.

The good will then enter heaven and the evil will be cast into eternal fire.

That is what will happen in the end times according to Islamic tradition. When the sayings of Muhammad are examined, that day is not very far from yesterday.

Muhammad never got an education, he was just a common Arab, but suddenly he produced very sophisticated prose which he said had been sent down from God. Somewhere in his message, he prophesied about the end of the world.

Nation on Sunday engaged national coordinator of the Islamic Information Bureau, Sheik Dinala Chabulika, to help out on what Islam says will signal the end times or what the religion calls Qiyamah.

“There are minor and major signs that will signal Qiyamah,” said Chabulika.

Among the minor signs, explained Chabulika, are phenomena such as slave ladies having their master’s babies and when unqualified people get jobs they do not deserve.

“There will be decreasing religious knowledge and an increase in ignorance. There will be an increase in killings and the number of women in a population will increase and we can see that in Malawi we now have 52 percent women,” he said.

Chabulika said despite the prophecies being made over a thousand years ago when some things were not there, they fit so perfectly with what is happening today.

“In the last days, people will drink wines under different names. People will value music and songs. There will be hiring of female musicians for entertainment even when that is forbidden. There will be an increase in extreme behaviour and repudiation of relatives.

“Adultery and dishonesty will increase, people will trust dishonest people and approach them for help. There will be appearances of sudden deaths,” said Chabulika.

One wonders whether the cardiac arrests, the rise in killings and defilement cases seen in Malawi recently can be said to have been foreseen by Muhammad.

Some can argue that the rise in population will obviously mean a rise in crime, for example. But can that account for all that is happening now that was prophesised by the men of old?

Reading Islamic texts, there are many other signals of the earth’s May Day. Here are some more signs (from www.inter-islam.org) that Muslims should look out for to see how close they are to judgment day:

Islam will become a stranger (unwanted religion), malice and hate will become common among people, people’s life spans will become short and people will boast about their palatial mansions.

Women with children will become displeased (on account of them bearing off-spring) and barren women will remain happy (because they have no responsibility of off-spring), oppression, jealousy and greed will become the order of the day.

People will begin to die in large numbers; lies will prevail over the truth; people will dispute over petty issues and orators and lecturers will lie openly.

Even climate change was foreseen as a signal of Qiyamah as it is said that it will be hot in winter (and vice versa).

All these are just minor signs. Chabulika has some of the major signs.

“The appearance of the anti-Christ who will be a man from the generation of Adam with shapes and inclinations of Satan and will be surrounded by many Satans. Then there will come a beast, the sun will rise from West and set in the East and then Jesus Christ will come,” said Chabulika.

Jesus Christ?

Yes, said Chabulika. He said Jesus will come down and clarify many controversies. He will also fight the anti-Christ and then all that will be alive will die since Allah will destroy the earth.

Then, all will rise to go and be judged. Jesus will come after Imaam Mahdi. Mahdi will be the main fighter for Muslims.

Muhammad said between Adam and the judgment day there will be nothing that will compare to the Anti-Christ in terms of gravity. The Anti-Christ is termed Dajjal in Islam and he will shake even those with firm faith, it is said. He will fall to the Muslim Army eventually.

“The Prophet wanted us to be careful. People do not believe, but what was prophesied is happening now. For a believer, they should prepare themselves and to nonbelievers they should know that these things were said by prophets of Gods,” said Chabulika.

He bemoaned the rise of atheists who he said are trying to corrupt the people slowly, starting with denying that there is no witchcraft.

When all signs come to pass and the sun rises from the West and sets in the East, the door of repentance will be closed—no more repenting when that line is crossed.

Whatever people may say about the prophecy signaling Qiyamah, some signs are among us and only the brave will claim that they cannot see them.
