Malawi recovered from a 56-39 loss to South Africa on Friday to beat Kenya 62-40 in their fifth game at the Africa Netball Cup Championship in Windhoek, Namibia.

The Queens made light work of Kenya when they took the lead 18-10 in the first quarter, 33-18 in the second, 44-29 in the third and wrapped up the victory 62-40 in the fourth quarter.

Coach Peace Chawinga-Kaluwa started with experienced players in goal defender Caroline Mtukule-Ngwira, goal keeper Towera Vinkhumbo-Nyirenda, wing attacker Bridget Kumwenda, goal shooter Joyce Mvula and goal attacker Jane Chimaliro. Sheila Dimba was the only less-capped international who played up to the third quarter.

In an interview after the game she applauded her charges for the victory.

Said Chawinga-Kaluwa: “It is good that we won against Kenya. It was a very good game, especially in the first quarter and second quarter.”

On her decision to make four substitutions in the fourth quarter, the coach said she has observed that players get tired towards end of the game. Malawi beat Zambia, Botswana and Zimbabwe in previous games
