Queens camping to affect OG Issa league

The Malawi Queens camping has led to the postponement of some games in the OG Issa Blantyre and District Netball League BDNL) following national coach Griffin Saenda’s decision not to release players.

Saenda said he wants more time to drill the team ahead of the trip to South Africa next week.

This has led to the cancellation of three games; two involving newly crowned Presidential Cup champions Bingu Tigresses and one for Escom Sisters.

Tigresses, who have four players in the Queens, were supposed to play Prison and Zomba Triggers whereas Escom, who also have four players in the national team, were supposed to play Woget Stars.

The League’s general secretary Anne Hanjahanja confirmed the development in an interview on Wednesday.

“We have been told that the coach will not release the players and this is a setback to the progress of the league. But all the same, it is for the good of the national team and we have drawn a new fixture,” said Hanjahanja

Saenda said he needs more time in camp as he has a few days to drill the team before the three test games in South Africa.

“We only started camping on Monday and it means we will have about 10 days before the games,” said Saenda.

The revised fixture is as follows: Sunday August 5; Glass Bank vs. Triggers, Woget vs. Prison, Chilomoni vs Aquaid, Rock Quiz vs Chitakale. All the games will be played at BYC.
