Queens drawn with South Africa

Malawi Queens have been drawn with rivals South Africa Spar Proteas in an otherwise easy Pool C for the 2015 Netball World Cup to be staged in Australia.

The International Netball Federation (INF) released the draw on Saturday ahead of the 16-member world event to start on August 7 2015 in Australia. Zambia and Uganda are the other African teams in the competition.

Apart from South Africa, who beat Malawi twice at the World Fast5 Netball Series in New Zealand last month, other countries in Pool C are lowly ranked Singapore and Sri Lanka who have never beaten the Queens before.

Zambia and Uganda are on collision course having been thrown in Pool D alongside Wales and Fiji.

Heavyweights England and Jamaica lead Pool B that also has Scotland and Samoa. Hosts Australia are in Pool A of New Zealand, Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago.

The tournament to run for 10 days has been revamped in name and format for the 14th staging since its inception in 1963.

This edition will incorporate two group stages with the top two teams progressing to the higher ranked matches, culminating in two semi-finals and medal matches on August 16th.

The winners will be crowned the first-ever netball World Cup champions, as the competition has previously been labelled the World Netball Championships, says the INF website. n
