Queens relocate to Scotland ahead of Commonwealth games

Malawi netball Queens have relocated from England to Scotland ahead of the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games starting next week.

Queens are the centre of attraction in the Malawi Sports Team that comprises boxers and athletes with John Kaputa as leader of delegation.

“Training has been progressing fantastically. After playing the friendly games, we have seen where we need to sharpen up here and there. The girls are working hard so that they can come home with something,” netball coach Mary Waya explained on Tuesday through a Facebook interview.

The retired star shooter is wary of Malawi Pool A opponents New Zealand, Jamaica, Northern Ireland, St Lucia and hosts Scotland.

Queens’ fiercest rivals on the continent, South Africa, are in Pool B of Australia, England, Wales, Trinidad and Tobago and Barbados.

“At the moment, we are training in strategies for the teams that we will play against. You know that competition is tough, so we should not underrate any team. We have to go with our strength,” said Waya.

Queens full squad: Mwawi Kumwenda (Canterbury Tactix); Sindi Simutowe, Beatrice Mpinganjira, Grace Mwafulirwa-Mhango and Laureen Ngwira (Complex Tigresses); Caroline Mtukule-Ngwira and Towera Vinkhumbo (Diamonds); Joana Kachilika (MTL Queens); Takondwa Lwazi and Joyce Mvula (Blue Eagles); Tina Kamzati and Jane Chimaliro (Civonets).
