Escom Sisters players Caroline Mtukule-Ngwira and Bridget Kumwenda returned from their stint with Tanzania netball team, Filbert Bayi, which has reportedly offered the duo long-term contracts.

During their three-week stay in Tanzania, Mtukule-Ngwira and Kumwenda helped Bayi, coached by ex-Queens captain Mary Waya, win a championship in Arusha. Bayi also invited a Ugandan netballer for the tournament.

“The club is organised and they promised us scholarships at a Tanzania school if we are interested in signing for them. I am surely looking forward to joining them once I resit Malawi School Certificate of Education examinations,” said Mtukule-Ngwira.

The duo received some decent money for helping Bayi win the championship.

“We noted that in East Africa netball it is a bit different in a sense that there is minimal contact when playing; hence, it is a easier for a player like me so used to physical battles,” said Mtukule-Ngwira.

Escom Sisters coach Griffin Saenda on Friday said the players have asked for a meeting with him and he hopes they will brief him on the Tanzania adventure.

“Expect one or two things. I do not think they learned from them [Tanzania], rather the Tanzanians learnt from them. Any way I will hear what they have to say,” said Saenda.

Filbert Bayi, who owns the netball team, is a former Olympic silver medallist.

Escom also exported Mwawi Kumwenda to an Australian provincial league side Peninsula Waves.
