Raiply Limited has pledged K320 000 (about $1 280) towards the promotion of volleyball in northern Malawi.

Raiply chief executive officer (CEO) Thomas Oommens said this on Saturday at the company offices in Mzimba when the Northern Region Volleyball League (NRVL) chairperson Kafumu Nkhoma sought the firm’s sponsorship.

“It is my company’s social responsibility to ensure that the youth in the community have something to keep them busy from indulging in dangerous activities,” Oommens said after pledging the sponsorship.

Currently, Raiply sponsors football and netball trophies for schools at Chikangawa to the tune of K300 000 (about $1 200).

The firm also recently helped Mzuzu Academy sports programmes with a donation of K1.5 million (about $6 000).

Nkhoma thanked Raiply for the gesture, saying it will enhance volleyball in the region as they will organise a bonanza soon.

“I think this is a major boost to volleyball in the region. We appeal to other companies to emulate the gesture,” said Nkhoma.

Oommens warned against mismanagement of the sponsorship funds. He also pledged new uniforms for the champions and the runners-up.
