The Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM) has pumped in about K500 million towards expansion of Silver Stadium. Upon completion, the stadium will have offices, a restaurant, gym centre and other recreational facilities.

Silver Strikers treasurer Fred Kalonga confirmed the investment on Wednesday.

“There will also be an extension of the covered stands. Apart from that, once the project is completed, it will have security cameras covering the whole stadium, including in the dressing rooms. This is to ensure security at the venue,” said Kalonga

He said RBM will also install biometric ID equipment, which controls turnstile entry into the stadium.

“The installation of the equipment is part the measures that are needed to prevent violence and hooliganism inside the stadium.

In case of violence, we will pin point people who caused it. It is a complete revolution of security management at matches and also to check those who like to gate crash,” said Kalonga.

The stadium is expected to be upgraded for a period of six months.

The club’s general secretary Mike Tembo said after the project they will let the facility to be used even for other commercial activities.

“Not only that, but we are also constructing a lounge, a gym and other recreational facilities. We want Silver to be a complete stadium with amenities associated with a complete stadium,” said Tembo.
