Malawi Red Cross Society (MRCS) has embarked on disseminating Covid-19 messages through cinema in Salima as cases continue to rise in the country.

In an interview, MRCS Health Projects coordinator Leonard Maganga said they want communities to know about the pandemic.

“We have embarked on a number of interventions to help communities fight Covid-19,” he said.

Maganga said the cinema exercise was meant to follow mobile groups such as market vendors who are rarely home and miss Covid-19 messages transmitted through other means.

A vendor at Thavite Trading Centre, Fyson Chipwete, said the exercise will help spread Covid-19 messages fast.

“We ask MRCS to also intensify the awareness in remote areas,” he said.

During the cinema sessions, MRCS distributed soap to viewers who correctly answered questions about Covid-19 pandemic.

Salima has registered 21 Covid-19 cases.
