President Lazarus Chakwera has called on religious leaders to take a leading role in building the nation.

The President made the call yesterday when he attended a church service at Calvary Family Church (CFC) International in Blantyre.

He said: “We need to leave this nation better than the way we found it by building a good foundation for the betterment of this generation and the generations to come. However, this can only be done if we can join hands in building the nation.

“As we are all serving the Lord, we should make sure that we are not infringing others, rather we should peacefully co-exist and enjoy the freedom of worship which cannot be interfered with by anyone.”

In his sermon, based on Genesis Chapter 1 verse 1 to 4, CFC founder Apostle Madalitso Mbewe urged Malawians to call on the light of God to remove darkness in the country, saying Christians have the power to separate the light from darkness.

“Our prayer should be that the Lord speaks light into our lives, our nation, and our families. Malawi needs the light of God in dealing with some of the challenges being faced by the nation; like Covid-19, corruption, and other disappointments,” he said.

During the service, CFC national bishop Christopher Holla urged the congregation to normalise praying for the nation, saying when a country prospers Christians benefit as well.

“The future of this country is in everyone’s hands, so there is need for us to keep on praying for the nation regardless of our status in the society. We should pray that God should give the President of this country a long life, good health and the spirit of wisdom for this nation to prosper,” he said.

Chakwera donated K1 million towards the church’s Leadership Summit of Pastors which is currently underway in Blantyre.
