Chief Secretary to the Malawi Government Hawa Ndilowe has appealed to all retired principal secretaries (PSs) to form an association which should act as forum for further collaboration between the civil service and the retired public servants.

Ndilowe made the appeal last Friday when she led fellow PSs and other top government officials in bidding farewell to some of the retired colleagues.

She noted that unlike other professionals such as judges, PSs do not have a structured body which could necessitate their continued collaboration even after retiring from the government system.

“We had a strategic management meeting for all top government officials [and] we thought of properly honoring fellow principal secretaries who have retired from the system for the good services they offered to this nation.

“However, I have appealed to them to institute an association which should be used as a forum to share experiences and knowledge and also act as a platform for consideration should there be opportunities,” said Ndilowe.

She assured the retirees that government was ready to make use of them although they were out of the system.

“Yes, you are retired but you are not tired and because government knows that you have a lot to offer, we will find ways on how to utilise your experiences and involve you in a number of activities aimed at developing this country,” said Ndilowe.

About six retired PSs were rewarded with various gifts, the bigger one being a deep freezer.

Representative of the retired PSs, Alex Mseka, hailed  the Chief Secretary and the entire Office of the President and Cabinet(OPC) for recognising their unwaveringly contribution to the country.

“It is very rare for someone to recognise your efforts and as a team of retired principal secretaries, we are very thankful to the Chief Secretary to Government and the entire OPC for such an honor,” he said.

Mseka said their team was still energetic and government should continue making use of it.

“We are a group of people with vast experience and we hope that together we can strategically plan and help to develop this country,” he said.—Mana
