Mzimba Hora Member of Parliament the Reverend Christopher Ngwira on Sunday publicly apologised to President Joyce Banda and her People’s Party (PP) for speaking against her when he was in the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).

Ngwira asked for forgiveness from Banda when he was being welcomed into PP at a rally the President held at Emvuyeni Primary School ground in Mzimba soon after opening the 25-kilometre Ekwendeni-Ezondweni Road.

Said the legislator: “Ine a pulezidenti ndabwera pano kuti ndidzadzikhuthule ndekha pazonse zimene zimachoka pakamwa panga [I have personally come here to apologise for uttering unkind words],” said Ngwira, attracting both laughter and ululation from PP officials and followers.

He further asked for forgiveness from other PP officials for the wrongs he committed against them.

In her response, Banda said her party keeps the open door policy; hence, it has embraced people she could not have forgiven, including Ngwira.

“The name of my party is People’s Party and this is not time for politicking, but rather time for development,” she said.

Ngwira dumped DPP last week for PP.
