The Rotary Club of Bwaila in Lilongwe says it expects to raise K10 million to buy medical equipment for Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) from the fun-run it held on December 13 this year.

The fun-run, where former vice-president Justin Malewezi was the guest of honour, took the runners from Crossroads Hotel roundabout to Paul Kagame Highway roundabout.

Rotary Club of Bwaila president Vinay Ganatra said in an interview on Thursday so far K6 million has already been raised.

He said: “We plan to raise K10 million and already K6 million is in the bag. We are grateful to the support we got from individuals and the corporate world. It was an honour to have the former vice-president joining us.

“Last year, we managed to raise K5 million with which we bought intensive care unit equipment such as respiratory machine and others for KCH. This time not only are we targeting KCH, but also Ntchisi District Hospital. As Rotarians, our main task is assisting the less privileged.”

Ganatra said Press Trust has contributed K2 million towards the cause.

In his remarks, Malewezi said the cause for which Rotary Club of Bwaila organised this function was noble.

Malewezi said Ntchisi District Hospital has 225 beds and serves a catchment area of 267 000.
