The Rugby Football Union of Malawi (Rfum) Under-20 league wound up successfully with hard-tackling Chipembere getting the honours once again at the Saint Andrews High School ground on Sunday.

Chipembere showed their championship credentials by battling from behind to see off Nguluwe who led in the opening stages with the likes of Hexter Starch, Joseph Manyozo and captain Sam Scott in form.

Rfum statement issued on Monday quoted coach Alistair Kennedy as saying he witnessed the best try in Malawi after Starch’s perfectly timed pass to Manyozo who went on to score a scorcher of a try converted by Scott.

However, Chipembere had the better of the first half with tries from Dick Maswan, Majowa Duwe and the speedy Luchenza player Montford Vukani. Captain Baz Scordis converted three tries to give his side a 26-7 half-time lead.

Nguluwe almost matched Chipembere for tries in the second half, with scores from Gideon Kapetuka and a second for Manyozo, both converted by Scott.

However, Chipembere’s pressure began to tell and Smart Kasama, Majowa Duwe and Dick Maswan all scored, with skipper Scordis providing the extra six points with three conversions to give Chipembere an unassailable 36-19 points win.
