Russell’s Swallows move fails

Flames gangling forward Russell Mwafulirwa is reported to be searching for a new club after failing to agree terms with South African Premier Soccer League outfit Moroka Swallows.

 

Swallows boss Leon Prins confirmed to South African media that negotiations with Mwafulirwa over a contract were unsuccessful.

“We are not signing him. We failed to agree on terms,” Prins was quoted as saying by Kickoff.com.

Meanwhile, Mwafulirwa has resurfaced at Cosmos where he hopes to conclude a deal with club boss Jomo Sono.

Club spokesperson, Lucky Mhlathi confirmed that Mwafulirwa started training with Ezenkosi during the week and is waiting for Sono to brief him on whether they will sign him or not.

Apparently, Cosmos were the first to offer Mwafulirwa a deal following the expiry of his contract in Sweden where he spent three years with Premier League side IFK Norrkoping.

Cosmos’ agent Ben Chiwaya confirmed that his boss Sono has resumed talks with Russell.

“Discussions have started all over again because Russell procrastinated when he was offered a contract. Jomo has just arrived from Switzerland where he attended a Fifa technical committee meeting,” said Chiwaya.

Mwafulirwa could not be reached for his comment.

Meanwhile, Flames striker Atusaye Nyondo has been included in the Kickoff.com Premier Soccer League team of the first round.

Nyondo, who has scored six goals so far in his first season in the PSL with Supersport United, has found himself a place in the team’s first 11, standing tall alongside leading scorer Katlego Mphela of Sundowns and Siyabonga Nomvethe of Moroka Swallows in a three-man striking force.

He is one of the only two foreigners in the starting 11 alongside Sundowns Mozambican international Elias Pelembe.

Kickoff spoke highly of Nyondo, who won the league’s first Player-of-the-Month Award of the current campaign as is currently the third leading scorer after Mphela and Nomvethe who have nine and eight goals respectively.
