Former Malawi national football coach Ronny van Geneugden (RVG) has donated a set of uniform to Southern Region Football Association Premier League outfit Chichiri Prison FC.

The donation was made through former Flames assistant team manager Aubrey Nankhuni on Tuesday.

Nankhuni said the donation was part of the consignment that the Belgian coach left.

“The former national team coach left behind sets of uniform. This is part of that consignment.

“I was approached by Chichiri Prison officials asking for assistance,” he said.

In a Whatsapp message, RVG said: “Like you know that we collected clothes and uniforms in Genk, Belgium, the town where we had a camp with Under-23 and before I left Malawi I had a lot of sets of uniform in my home to donate to Northern Region through Othaniel Hara, Central Region [Rashid Ntelera] and in the Southern Region through Aubrey Nankhuni, James Sangala and Peter Mponda who have uniforms which they will donate to several teams.”

He promised to keep on assisting Malawi despite leaving the country.

“It’s very important as a coach to help and give extra motivation to all people, especially teams. It’s very normal. Even after I left Malawi I will always help and I will donate.”

Chichiri Prison team manager Sammy Kachepa commended Nankhuni for facilitating the donation.

“We didn’t expect that we will receive such a donation. We have many problems such as lack of boots, sets of uniform, goalposts and travel expenses to play games,” he said.

RVG also donated a consignment of sports items to flood victims in Chikwawa valued at K100 million.
