Former Flames coach Stephen Constantine is on the brink of becoming the next Rwanda national football team’s trainer after the Wasps offered him a two-year deal.

Rwandan Football Association (Ferwafa) wants a replacement for Eric Nsimiyimana whose tenure ends on July 31 this year.

Constantine , 51, has emerged favourite among several other candidates in the running that include former Ghana coach Ratomir Djukovic, Botswana coach Peter Butler and Ex Tanzania coach Kim Poulsen.

The association’s spokesperson Vedaste Kayiranga told BBC Sport on Wednesday that a deal had been agreed in principle.

“We are impressed with Constantine and he is also ready to come and work,” said Kayiranga.

A statement on Ferwafa’s website added: “There are a few details we need to discuss with Constantine before he can officially be unveiled as the head coach.”

The Briton, who holds a Uefa pro licence, coached the Flames from 2007 to 2008, taking them into the Confederation of Southern African Football Associations (Cosafa) tournament. He also coached Nepal, India and Sudan national sides.

Prior to coaching the Flames, Constantine was coach at Millwall back in his homeland.

He recently helped Nea Salamis in the Cypriot First Division to gain promotion to the First Division.
